Rome Art And Community Center, (RACC) Rome’s only multi-arts facility, serves greater Rome and Oneida County, offering both cultural and community programming at little or no cost to the public. RACC welcomes almost 5,000 visitors annually, from four counties and visitors from all over the US. RACC is committed to making programming accessible to all-regardless of age, race, economic status, or physical ability. Embracing community impact, true to its mission, RACC plays an important role in fostering creativity, cultural awareness, and a strong community connection through a broad range of programming and services. RACC offers unique opportunities to experience the arts on a very personal level, whether it be through hands-on instruction, a quiet walk through serene gallery space, or even as a part of a large community event. RACC is  proud to have been a part of the Rome Community since 1967, and impacting the lives of children, teens, and adults every year since.

RACC  continues to receive positive feedback from community members who share about the impact that the arts have made in their lives and the lives of their family members.  We celebrate the Arts and encourage you to “Step Into the Arts” and make a difference with us!

Rome Art And Community Center is also a home-away-from-home for hundreds of artists each year- whether they exhibit their works in the galleries, attend fine arts workshops or perform here.

Center Operations

RACC is operated by a paid staff person, with the assistance of volunteers, and governed by a supportive Board of Trustees. The facility is owned by the City of Rome and is open to the public during business hours. The Center relies on the generosity of the community and its members to fund daily operations through donations and membership fees. The City of Rome, state and county grants, programming income, and foundation grants are also sources of operating funds.

Just Some of Our Quality Programs:

  • Children’s Programming:
    • The Owl & The Silver Moon (OSM), at the Rome Art and Community Center, is an early learning academy for children ages 3-5 years.  The academy is a ½ day program (3 hours) that follows the school year calendar.  The Mission of The Owl & The Silver Moon is Learning through the Lens of the Arts, a place where the ordinary meets the extraordinary; where exploration and creativity equal learning. The goals of the OSM are to create and instill a joyous passion for learning; to promote literacy and reading readiness, numeracy and math readiness, character development and self-regulation as well as create lasting connections for children, families, the art center and the community.Childhood is filled with wonders.  Children are designed by nature to learn through exploration and play.  They are excited and full of curiosity and wonder, with a tremendous sense of adventure.  From birth to age 5, a child learns at a speed unmatched for the rest of life.   The interactions and exposure at this early age shape all future learning.    Learning should be a positive, exciting and natural experience.  Through our program, children explore a world of imagination and uncover a world of possibilities.  The Owl and The Silver Moon is a place where art is the focus and learning occurs through this lens.  Days are filled with interactive learning experiences and exposure to the various genres of art, music, drama, and literature.  We infuse creativity into productive learning experiences.
    • For over 15 years RACC has offered the highest quality children’s summer day camp: Artletics! This exciting program combines the creativity of Fine Arts, the energy of Drama and the excitement of Athletics – to create a full day of fun for children aged 5- 12 years. Every week of camp is unique with new lessons and concepts introduced to keep things fresh and exciting. Campers may sign up for 1 week at a time, several weeks or the entire summer session.   Creativity and imagination are the foundation of summer activities to spark year-round learning opportunities, while having fun.
    • Free or low cost events for children are held throughout the year on holidays including Christmas, Easter and Halloween.
  • Visual Arts: This program refers to quality offerings of more than 40 exhibits in the four professional galleries each year by local, regional and national artists. Visual Arts programming also includes free Artist Talks in our galleries and free Artist Opening Receptions.
  • Musical Events:   RACC hosts a variety of music events every year – home to the Alliance Classical Players, summer concerts on the lawn, Open Mic nights that highlight local talent to name just a few.  New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) provides support for these events.
